Lando Norris Tops Oscar Piastri in Brazilian Practice Session
The British driver has outscored Oscar Piastri at each of the previous five grands prix.
Lando Norris just pipped fellow driver and title rival the Australian for the quickest lap in the closing stages of practice at the Sao Paulo Grand Prix.
Norris, who grabbed the points lead from his teammate by just one point after winning in Mexico City two weeks ago, beat the Australian by a tiny margin of 0.023secs.
Before then, Piastri had been the leading McLaren during the running before the sprint shootout set to begin at 18:30 GMT.
The Red Bull star, the other racer in realistic title contention, lying with a 36-point deficit behind Norris, was classified in 17th position as his team opted for a different programme.
His teammate the Japanese driver was the only driver to crash, if briefly, when he lost control at corner four soon after starting.
The Japanese slid over the track edges before rotating through the escape zone, and was fortunate to escape with just a light touch of the wall.
Ferrari's Lewis Hamilton also spun, at the final moments of the practice, turning around through the high-speed Mergulho corner leading to the final corner on to the pit straight.
The seven-time champion ended the session in 19th place, one place behind team-mate Charles Leclerc.
The McLaren pair were far ahead of the remaining drivers, with the German's Sauber P3, over half a second slower than Piastri's pace.
The Aston Martin of Fernando Alonso was fourth fastest, with Sauber's Gabriel Bortoleto fifth from the Mercedes of Russell and the Alpine of Pierre Gasly and the Williams of Sainz.
