Paris Saint-Germain Defeats Marseille in a Shootout to Claim French Season-Opening Trophy in Kuwait.

PSG players celebrating

PSG has now secured the prestigious cup on 14 different times.

Paris Saint-Germain needed a stoppage-time equaliser followed by a perfect penalty shootout to overcome their arch-rivals in Kuwait and capture a fourth straight Trophee des Champions title.

The Champions League holders appeared to be coasting towards a straightforward win in the match between the French league winners and the Coupe de France winners after the French winger found the scoring in the opening stages.

However, the southern French side struck twice in the closing moments to seize a shock lead. First, Mason Greenwood scored from the spot-kick, before the defender inadvertently directed the ball into his own net for an own goal.

In a breathtaking turn of events, Goncalo Ramos snatched a crucial equaliser in the final seconds to send the contest into a penalty shootout. PSG goalkeeper Lucas Chevalier then stood as the hero, saving crucial attempts from Matt O'Riley and Hamed Traore.

From the spot, Ramos, the midfielder, the full-back, and Desire Doue all converted with composure for Paris Saint-Germain to complete a convincing penalty victory.

Now 14-time winners PSG, who met last season's Ligue 1 second-placed team Marseille after achieving a domestic double, have now won this trophy for the 12th time in the past thirteen seasons.
