The tournament joins the American and Australian Opens in utilizing replay technology.
Replay systems will make its debut at The Championships in the upcoming tournament.
Competitors will gain the right to challenge certain rulings from the official, mirroring the system already in place at each of the US Open and the Australian Open.
This innovation is slated for use on the main stadium and Court One throughout the tournament and on the other four show courts when they are hosting singles matches.
This development follows just a season following the All England Club implemented ELC, which terminated the longstanding tradition of line judges.
What Can Be Reviewed?
Players cannot to challenge the call of the ELC system, but are allowed to ask for the official to re-examine other situations, such as:
- Whether a tennis ball has bounced twice.
- If a ball made contact with an opponent's racquet or person on the way past.
- Potential hindrance end of a rally.
Notably, there is no cap on the amount of reviews a competitor can request.
A Recent Example
A recent example occurred in Indian Wells recently, where Daniil Medvedev used the review system against his opponent.
Draper conceded it was a difficult call for the umpire, but thought his rival had "used the regulations quite well."
Official Aurelie Tourte viewed a video and determined the player was responsible for hindrance, awarding the rally to Medvedev.
Broader Adoption
This technology aren't new for major tournaments. It has been in use at the American major for two years and the Aussie Open this year.
Additionally, it is becoming more common on the WTA circuit, and by next season the men's ATP Tour will have video reviews implemented at every one of its tournaments.
Further Updates
Another innovation at Wimbledon 2025 involves the addition of graphical cues on scoreboards to support the verbal announcements from the ELC system.
This solves instances where spectators have occasionally been unsure whether a shot was in or out.
In other news, with precisely 100 days remaining until the start of the Championships, organizers have further announced an increase in daily attendance at the qualifying competition in the qualifying venue.
